Divide the plants in an inexpensive pot of basil from the supermarket and you’ll be in fresh herbs all summer long
Yesterday I shared news of my latest gardening success story and today I have a video tutorial to show you exactly what I did. Some say that it’s not possible to divide supermarket herb plants like Basil but I’ve tried it out and have found that you can indeed.
At only £1.25 a pot, live Basil plants in the supermarket are an economical buy and sometimes even cheaper than herbs that are already cut. They’re certainly less expensive than many packets of seeds! Unfortunately these plants are grown so densely that they can’t survive very long in the pot they arrive in. I wondered if I could divide them up into individual plants and after trying this method out twice, I’ve found that you can get 15 or more healthy plants from them. Who would have known?
